Nutritious Breakfast Smoothie

October 23rd, 2015 | no comments

Getting bored of your usual breakfast routine??!!

With the weather warming up, it’s a great time to start adding in delicious breakfast smoothies!  This is one of my favourites, so I thought I would share with you today.  Remember, you are only limited by your imagination, so get experimenting and create your own favourite combo!

I use a thermomix which allows me to grind up all of the seeds, nuts & oats up really well for optimal digestion.  If you don’t have a good blender, then I suggest soaking your seeds & nuts over night before you blend them to ensure they are digested easier.

Down the bottom I have some additional ingredients that you could add, but not essential.  I add the Macca Root powder, which is fantastic for regulating your blood sugar levels (energy), and also balancing your hormones.  The mesquite powder is a great source of amino acids (protein!), nutrients, and adds an amazing caramel-ish flavour….mmmmmm!!  Play around with the ingredients to find what works best for you!

Time:  10minutes      Makes: 1 smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 2-3 tbsp seed and/or nut mix (combination of whatever you have: pepitas, sunflower, chia, flaxseeds, almonds, cashews etc)
  • 1/3 cup whole oats
  • 1 cup water or milk of your choice (more or less depending on desired consistency)
  • 1/4 tsp cinammon

Optional:

  • Superfoods:  macca root powder (1/2 tbsp), mesquite powder (1 tbsp)
  • Honey (I don’t use honey personally to avoid too much added sugar, but can be added if you desire!)

Instructions:

Put all ingredients into the blender and blend until desired consistency!  In the thermomix I blend the seeds & oats first dry until they reach a fine consistency, and then I add the remaining ingredients in.

Using nut milk will add more creaminess, but I find adding water means you are essentially making oat milk which tastes great to me!

Using frozen banana makes the smoothie cold and more creamy.
